we can get you an entrant sticker.
Here's the flyer we will distribute at the
2005 Doo Dah Parade and pictures from last year
This will be the second year we have an entry in
the parade. If you wish to participate in the parade, and or the
prop-making on Saturday before the parade, contact eric@lapostcarbon.org,
714-926-1916.
Critical Mass of Bicycles
Critical Mass Cyclists are welcome to join us as an example of sustainable
transport. If your willing to tie a sign on your bike, it would
be great as well - let me know. On a bike a "I Am Alternate Energy"
would be great, If there was enough bikes - it would be really cool
if the 12-step program (below) was attached to 12-bikes circling and weaving
around parade route. Could we recruit at least 12 cyclists?
LA Post Carbon Entered the 2004 Doo
Dah Parade with a variety of actors. They included the out-of-gassers
pushing their car carrying empty gas cans, the Earth being followed by
a doctor(s) with a thermometer and stretcher, a Soldier fighting for oil,
Uncle Sam who is "Addicted to Oil", a TV set looking for a place to plug
in and a "Wake up!!
To counter all this oil addiction, there will be 12-Step Program for oil
addicts (updated for 2005). These steps are not meant to be all inclusive,
but to give people a starting point and incremental steps to end their
addiction to oil.
12-Step Program For Oil Addicts
- Buy used products whenever possible
- Don't buy things you don't need
- Share everything - especially energy consuming appliances
- Walk or Bike for transportation
- Buy a used car instead of a new one
- Move your job closer, or move closer to your job
- Grow food
- Plant trees and shrubs, preferably food-producing
- Shop at a local farmers market
- Eat less meat and more raw foods
- Retrofit homes for energy and water efficiency
- Educate yourself and your community on the impact of our choices
Ideas Welcome:
You can also join the group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PostCarbonDooDah to post your ideas. We will re-use some of the ideas
from last year, and may add some new ones.
We will distribute flyers with info on
the November 22 screening of "The END of SUBURBIA" at the Pasadena Central
Library, and the Kenneth Defers presentation at Cal Tech on December 1st,
8 PM (free, no RSVP needed). The kids that were in the parade last
year really enjoyed handing out the flyers.

To counter all this oil addiction, there was a 12-Step Program for oil

a starting point and incremental steps to end their addiction to oil.
12-Step Program for Oil-Addicts
- Be aware of the oil you consume when you travel, shop, work and eat
- Understand that you need only make incremental changes
- Educate yourself about energy and sustainability
- Reduce number of car trips
- Increase walking or biking trips
- Become active in your local community
- Begin a garden
- Create Car or Van Pools
- Do away with non-essentials that don't contribute to our health or
well being
- Form an organic food-buying co-op
- Retrofit homes for energy and water efficiency
- Know that these steps are a small but important beginning
2004 Doo Dah Parade Pictures
In the picture below we are waiting for the Doo Dah parade to start.
There were 25 people that joined us, including 9 kids.

Here we are someone in the middle of the Doo Dah parade route. The small
TV below is a 4 year-old girl (going on 5). She was very excited about
being in the parade. If anyone has a closeup picture of her, please send
it to me (eric@einem.us) (ditto for pictures of any of the entrants).

Uncle Sam in the picture below had an OIL IV on wheels. Occasionally
his IV would roll away from him and pull out of his arm. This would cause
him to go into OIL shock and collapse to the ground. Fortunately the Soldier
"Fighting for Oil" came to the rescue in each case to reconnect
his IV. Anyone have a picture of Uncle Sam collapsed on the ground?

The doctors below were supposed to be following the earth closely because
the earths thermometer was indicating Global Warming in the danger zone.
Looks like the earth is not being looked after too carefully below.
